I’m really looking forward to our text this Sunday, Hebrews 12:18–29. It’s a summation of the author’s argument up to this point: don’t go back to the Old Covenant but hold fast to Jesus because. To do that he draws a contrast of two mountains—Sinai representing the Old, and Zion representing the New. This analogy is rich with relevance for us today!

See you Sunday,

What a gift it was to have Mwindula Mbewe with us last week! Praise God for his ministry among us. This week we are back in Hebrews 12:14–17. It’s a shorter text for us, yet it’s an important one because of what is says about the Christian life and living together as a local church. In short, pursuing holiness is essential for a believer, and it is a communal effort.

Appropriately, we’ll come to the Lord’s Table together this Sunday after our time in the Word. May the Lord do wonderful things among us.

In Christ,

We are thrilled to have Mwindula Mbewe with us again this Sunday. You’ll remember he preached at CrossPointe precisely one year ago and thoroughly blessed us with his ministry of the Word. Pastor Mwindula is from Lusaka, Zambia, where he planted and pastors Hillview Baptist Church. This Sunday, his message will be on Ecclesiastes 1:1–11 and will be entitled, “The Cycle of Life.” Please pray for his and his family’s safe travels and ministry among us!

We are back in Hebrews this Sunday, specifically Hebrews 12:4–13. This passage is crucial for understanding how the Lord loves his people and how sanctification and the Christian life work. Getting a good grasp on these truths equips us to understand trials and hardships and God’s purpose for them.

See you Sunday!

If you missed Tyler’s helpful sermon last Sunday, be sure to catch it here. On this family worship Sunday, instead of plowing through a weighty text in Hebrews 12, we will consider one of the most explicit gospel texts in all of the Bible: Ephesians 2:1–10. With the children joining us in the sanctuary, I think about what we hope every child who grows up at CrossPointe will be clear on by the time they become adults. Most fundamentally, we want them to know, trust in, and live in response to the good news of the gospel. No text explains it more clearly than Ephesians 2:1–10. I hope to preach clearly and concisely in a way that ministers across the spectrum—from young children to mature saints and everyone in between.

Looking forward to Sunday!

This Sunday we’re going to be looking at 1 Thessalonians 1:2–10. It’s in these verses that the Apostle Paul commends the Thessalonians for their faith and example. Just reading it gives the believer a sense as to what type of faith is pleasing to the Lord. I hope that we will walk away from this text encouraged and challenged in our own faith. So, prepare yourself to lean in and come expecting to glean the fruit of this text.

I look forward to digging into it together. See you on Sunday!

I trust Hebrews 11 was as helpful to you as it was to me. It contains so much encouragement to hold fast to Jesus by faith. This Sunday we’re in one of the high points of the letter, Hebrews 12:1–3. It’s an exhortation that stands on the foundation of the examples of faith from Hebrews 11. The preacher is summarizing his sermon in these verses. His main point: you have all these great examples, so lay aside any hindrance and persevere in the race as you look to Jesus who has done all that is needed to bring you to the finish line.

We’ll also come to the Lord’s table together on this first Sunday of February. Let’s prepare our hearts and minds to feast on Christ and His Word.

Grace and peace,

This Sunday, we come to the end of this famous chapter with a look at Hebrews 11:32–40. Our author is bringing his exhortation to a close with a fascinating, instructive, and encouraging mixed bag of examples. He begins by recounting the deeds of those who conquered by faith and then unexpectedly highlights those who endured suffering by faith. He concludes by saying that all these examples—both conquering and enduring—were approved through their faith. There’s much depth here!

Looking forward to seeing you!

Good doctrine is beautiful, but good doctrine with real-life examples is even more beautiful. It’s what we see in Hebrews 11. This Sunday, our text is Hebrews 11:23–31 and the examples of Moses, Israel at the Red Sea and the walls of Jericho, and Rahab the prostitute are the most unlikely of candidates to make it into the example chapter. We need Hebrews 11 desperately!

Faith Looks Forward https://www.insidecrosspointe.com/blog/post/faith-looks-forward- https://www.insidecrosspointe.com/blog/post/faith-looks-forward-#comments Fri, 12 Jan 2024 11:00:00 -0500 https://www.insidecrosspointe.com/blog/post/faith-looks-forward- Dear CrossPointe,

Hebrews 1–10 gives us reason after reason to have faith in the supremacy of Christ. Hebrews 11 then gives us example after example of those who have gone before and demonstrated this faith. Our text this week, Hebrews 11:8–22, zooms in on Abraham and his family. Despite many reasons to doubt, they persevered, looked forward by faith, and trusted God. They were a family that obeyed on earth as they longed for heaven. They lived out a tension that we are called to as well. This is a soul-anchoring, grip-strengthening text. I’m looking forward to thinking deeply about this passage on Sunday and to seeing two new members baptized. Pray with me that the Lord does wonderful things among us.
