This Sunday: Psalms 42 & 43

Dear CrossPointe,

The pastors are currently preaching through selected Psalms on Sundays, and this week I’ll be looking at Psalms 42 and 43 (originally one psalm). As you know, the many psalms were written by many people and consequently explore many conditions of the human soul. This makes the book of Psalms a kind of manual to help us understand our own hearts.

While several psalms express joy, just as many convey sorrow (not to mention all the emotions in between). Consider the psalmists’ words in 42:3: “My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, ‘Where is your God?’” These words describe a depression not entirely unfamiliar to many of us.

Perhaps you’ve experienced depression like that or maybe know someone else who has—whatever the cause, it is often accompanied by spiritual depression as well. I hope to address that on Sunday as we study God’s Word together. So, come prepared: read ahead and be sure to pray for your own heart and the church in general. I look forward to seeing you Sunday!

In Christ,
