This Sunday: “Flee Idolatry”

“Idols” aren’t just statues or the winners of some singing contest. No, they are the people, things, occurrences, ideas, etc., in which we place our hope. In fact, our culture is full of seductive false gods that draw our hearts away from Christ, often subtly. In his book Counterfeit Gods, Tim Keller calls an idol “anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give.”

This Sunday we will unpack this notion of idolatry as we look at 1 Corinthians 10:1-22, where Paul takes aim at the idols of the Corinthian church. To say these truths have enormous implications for us today would be an understatement. So, in order to prepare your heart for Sunday I encourage you to:
2. Read Exodus 32 (the account of Israel’s idolatry in making the golden calf).

Grace and peace,

Brad
