Stay Awake

CrossPointe,

This Sunday we’ll finish out Jesus’ teaching on the last days with a look at Mark 13:24-37. As I mentioned last week, although earnest and sincere Christians have different opinions about eschatology (study of End Times), I don't want us to miss what I think is the larger point—Jesus' return and certain victory should produce longing and confidence in the Christian. Toward the end of his life, the Apostle Paul put it this way in 2 Timothy 4:8, “Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

Whether Christian or not, there is an awareness in every human soul that things are not as they ought to be and cannot be allowed to remain as they are. Only in the gospel can that longing be satisfied. Pray this week that God would do more than add to our Bible knowledge or entrench our particular end-times view. Pray that He would stir our hearts to long for the Day when Jesus finally and fully sets all things right and vanquishes Satan and evil forever. Pray also that unbelievers would be drawn to this beautiful hope that only can be found in Christ.

I'm looking forward to seeing you Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Brad
