Jesus Sends
Happy New Year!
In Mark 6:7-13, Jesus remarkably sends out what still seems to be a very unprepared group of twelve on a mission. Earlier in Mark’s gospel Jesus called these men so that they might be with him and that he might send them out to proclaim the gospel. Likewise, to be a Christian is to be on mission. Our plan this Sunday is to think deeply about how we are called to do that in our context.
Also, I’m very excited to be starting our congregational catechism this Sunday. A catechism is basically a “Q&A” format for teaching biblical truth, and one of the primary ways Protestants since the Reformation have taught their congregations.
Specifically, we’ve chosen to use a catechism developed by Tim Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York. It is basically a condensed compilation of several historic Protestant catechisms and has 52 questions and answers, one for each week of the year. If you’d like to go deeper with each weekly question and answer, here is an excellent website tool.
See you Sunday!
Brad
